Zoom Class Homework

Homework is expected for each class meeting. Initially, it involves watching videos and reading articles, with some light note-taking (and then building a T-chart). Then we start writing speech outlines and practice our speaking. In every session, we do back-and-forth (spontaneous) debating called “crossfire.” As the class progresses, the amount of writing goes down and the amount of time spent speaking increases – making the homework appear to be getting lighter as the weeks progress. We ask you to take the homework seriously and actually practice your speaking in the same way you would have spent time writing speeches/rebuttals.

IMPORTANT: This page might not matter to “Zoom” Class students — your homework will be built into the course itself. However, this page will have simple homework pages for students to use. ty!

Intermediate Classes vs Beginning Classes

The debate topics for the Fall Session will be the same for all grades: Increasing high-speed rail in the U.S. is desirable.

Intermediate classes require pre-approval during the signup process. Anyone who has done a public-forum-style debate (or Lincoln-Douglas) at a tournament is eligible for intermediate and advanced classes. Anyone having completed the self-paced course, may join an intermediate course – although a beginning course might be a better fit.
